Several maintenance steps should be completed when the Sediment Trap returns from a deployment
before longer term storage.

Step Note
1 Rinse and scrub the cone, housing, motor and
rotator with fresh water. Take extra care around the flow
straightener.
2 Check Oil Bladder in Drive Motor Assembly Add silicone oil only if the bladder is
low (see ‘Check the Oil Bladder in the
Drive Motor Assembly’ in this
chapter).

Remove and inspect controller housing internals
(check o-rings, remove batteries) See ‘Remove and Inspect Controller
Housing Internals’ in this chapter.
4 Remove rotator and rinse ball bearings with fresh
water See ‘Remove Rotator and Rinse Ball
Bearings’ in this chapter.
5 Reinstall the components onto the frame See ‘Reinstall Components onto the
Frame’ in this chapter.
6 Cover top/funnel with clean plastic for storage Take care not to put weight on the
honeycomb baffle
