Martin maxium & maxium Beamer Operating Instructions
V 2.0

Note
•
The socket (21) can also be used for connecting a bipolar dual-pedal footswitch. In this case,
however, only the blue pedal can be used for current activation.
•
While it is technically possible to assign the blue pedal to a cutting channel, this is not the way it
should be used with the maxium (blue = intended/reserved for coagulation)!
4.2.2 maxium
Beamer
Interface
The maxium features a separate interface (28) for the maxium Beamer (item no.
80-044-00). This interface is not only used for communication between the two
units, but it also serves for powering the maxium Beamer through the maxium
unit.
4.2.3 Interface
Connectors
The maxium offers two different interfaces, (22) and (23). The RS-232 interface
(22) is exclusively reserved for servicing tasks. The CAN bus interface (23) is
intended for use with a Martin Argon Beamer or with accessories defined by
Martin.
Accessory equipment connected to the analog and digital interfaces must be
certified according to the respective IEC standards (e.g. IEC 60950 for data
processing equipment and IEC 601-1 for medical equipment). Furthermore all
configurations shall comply with the valid version of the system standard
IEC 601-1-1. Everybody who connects additional equipment to the signal input
part or signal output part configures a medical system, and is therefore respon-
sible that the system complies with the requirements of the valid version of the
system standard IEC 601-1-1. If in doubt, consult the technical service depart-
ment or your local representative.
4.2.4
Equipotential Bonding Connector
As potential equalization is required when using an HF unit in certain OR areas,
this connection can be made through the maxium’s equipotential bonding con-
nector (24) (as required, for example, for intracardial operations).
