SAFETY SUMMARY
1
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
This manual describes physical and chemical processes which may cause injury or death to personnel, or damage to
equipment if not properly followed. Comply with all warnings and cautions to prevent accidental injury to personnel or
damage to equipment. Always bring the airplane to a safe condition before beginning any maintenance procedure. All
procedures shall be consistent with standard shop practices and shall not detract from overall efficiency and operation of the
equipment.
2
WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, AND NOTES.
Warnings and cautions are used in this manual to highlight operating or maintenance procedures, practices, conditions, or
statements which are considered essential to protection of personnel or equipment. Notes are used in this manual to highlight
operating or maintenance procedures, practices, conditions, or statements which are not essential to protection of personnel
or equipment. The heading and de
¿
nition for each alert is shown below. Additional entries are pre
¿
xed by a bullet, and the
warning, caution, or note label is not repeated.
A WARNING highlights an essential operating or maintenance procedure, practice, condition, statement, etc.,
which if not strictly observed could result in injury to or death of personnel or long term health hazards.
A CAUTION highlights an essential operating or maintenance procedure, practice, condition, statement, etc.,
which if not strictly observed could result in damage to or destruction of equipment or loss of mission effective-
ness.
NOTE
A NOTE highlights an essential operating or maintenance procedure, practice, condition, or statement.
3
PERSONAL HAZARD LABELING.
Where possible, airplane systems are designed to minimize personal hazards such as sharp corners, electrical shock, and high
temperatures. However, there are areas where exposure of personnel to such hazards is unavoidable. In such cases, warning
placards or markings are provided to alert the personnel to hazards in the vicinity of work. These warnings carry the same
authority as technical instructions and personnel shall take appropriate action to prevent personal injury.
4
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION.
Some tasks specify the use of hazardous materials that pose a serious environmental threat if misused, improperly disposed
of, or accidentally released into the environment. When working with hazardous materials, use the minimum amount needed
to complete the task and implement appropriate precautions to protect against release of material into the environment.
Dispose of excess material in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
5
MAINTENANCE SAFETY.
Be aware of the location and actions of all personnel working on the airplane. Communicate intentions, identify potential
hazards, and take steps to reduce risks to personnel. The following paragraphs describe common maintenance safety prac-
tices to be referenced when performing procedures in this manual.
