5.2.6 Replacing the braided wire elements
See Fig. 4, page 30 for replacement of the braided wire
elements.
WARNING!
Improper replacement of the braided wire elements can result in
severe injuries and material damage.
Therefore:
•
Only have the braided wire elements replaced by a
specialist workshop.
•
The following instructions are provided for the specialist
workshop.
•
Always wear protective gloves when replacing the braided
wire elements.
Do not place the machine on its side or turn it upside down
(oil and fuel can get into the air filter and make it unusable,
or oil and fuel can escape). If the machine is on the ground,
it can be lifted at the front until the steering arm touches the
ground. Close the fuel cock beforehand and ensure that the
machine cannot roll away.
It is better to work on a lift platform.
Unscrew the screw that is under the brush head.
Pull the complete brush head off of the shaft.
Fasten the brush head (with the braided wire elements
upwards) on the workbench (screw clamp).
The base of each braided wire element is fixed in place
with a spring bolt. The "handle end" of the spring bolt is
visible as a brass screw.
With the provided lever, you can lift the brass screw heads,
and then take the worn braided wire elements individually
out of the pockets in the brush head, and insert new
braided wire elements.
Fit the brush head back onto the shaft and tighten the
screw with torque of 25 Nm.
