SDM-1 Power Up Procedure
NOTE
:
Each NE requires an NVM card containing the initial
default conditions and the updated software version. The
NVM card is nested underneath a narrow cover in the middle
of the front panel.
1. Turn on the circuit breaker(s) on the PDF panel to power the
µ
SDM-1
systems.
2. Check that the green
ACTIVE
indicators on the
µ
SDM-1 cards are turned on
and remain in this state.
3. Check that the red
FAIL
indicator on the
µ
SDM-1 is lit, flashes during the
software downloading, and then turns off. This process should take no more
than 2 minutes.
7.3 Optical Level Test
1. Disconnect the optical loopback on the receive side of the
µ
SDM-1 and
connect the Optical Power Meter (OPM) to the optical cable from the ODF.
2. Disable the ALS in the proper aggregate interface via the eEM.
3. Activate the laser and measure the optical power; An optical signal level from
-8 dBm to -15 dBm with a mean -10 dBm signal is typical.
4. Reconnect the optical loopback.
7.4 Optical Transmission Tests
The optical transmission tests are conducted to certify that the
µ
SDM-1 products
comply with the ITU-T laser safety regulations.
7.4.1 Mean Launched Power
Procedure:
1. Connect the optical power meter to an aggregate out connector.
2. Access the eEM and disable the ALS (Automatic Laser Shutdown) feature on
the relevant SPI object. Obtain a Card Internals view of the module which
shows the SPI object, right click the SPI object and clear the ALS box.
3. Set the optical power meter to 1310 nm or 1550 nm (depending on unit type).
