Before You Start
The installation of
µ
SDM-1 multiplexers is a joint project between the customer and
Lightscape Networks. Before beginning the installation, the precise responsibilities
of each party must be clarified, including both the scheduling and installation stages.
This manual describes a typical
µ
SDM-1 installation and contains important
information, which will help you carry out a safe and trouble-free installation. For
non-standard installations it is necessary to obtain specific instructions from
Lightscape Networks.
3.1 Safety Precautions
The
µ
SDM-1 system contains power sources of varying voltages. Please ensure, that
you install the system in accordance with the following guidelines:

Do not work on any equipment when it is connected to a voltage source (DC
battery or AC source).
♦
Use only insulated tools during installation.
♦
Ensure the integrity of the ground cord wherever it is connected to a system.
♦
Ensure that the maximum working temperature at the exchange end does not
exceed 50
o
C.
♦
Wear protective clothing as required by the requisite safety regulations.
♦
Do not install or maintain the equipment during thunder storms (on the
subscriber side).
♦
Pay attention to the warning signs and labels located on the equipment and in
its vicinity.
♦
In order to avoid contact with high voltage sources, shelves and modules must
be installed with caution.
♦
Note the laser safety instructions indicated in the following section.
