8 Operation and Maintenance
8.1 Powering System On & Off
Once all electrical circuits have been verified, and all electrical connections have been checked, turn on
the main circuit breaker feeding the rack. To boot the SCM control, turn on the Control Power Switch
found directly underneath the Rack Control Interface. (Reference Figure 3). The processor will take
approximately 20-25 seconds to fully boot, and you should see the display boot into the menu. The
Mode LED should be lit, and either DMX LED will be lit if there is a DMX source active.
When powering up the DX3 for the first time, the boot time is approximately 22 seconds to lights on.
It takes a total of 40 seconds for the ride-thru super capacitors to fully charge, providing maximum
ride-thru time. There is an LED on the SCM module printed circuit board that indicates the ride-thru
circuit is charging.
In order to perform a complete power down and system reboot, you should wait at least 30 seconds
before re-applying power once removed. It is possible to do a short system restart by powering down
for 3-4 seconds (following a full charge), then re-applying power. The ride-thru holds up the main
processor power, the system restarts, and lights are up in 3-4 seconds. The time to a full charge
following a short power down cycle is no more than 15 seconds.
To turn power off, turn off the Control Power Switch and wait the 30 seconds for the Ride-Thru super
caps to discharge. At this point, the SCM and any other control boards can be removed.
8.2 Dimmer Control Card
All versions of the DX3 rack uses the same Dimmer Control Card, as shown in Figure 18, with the
ability to control 120 dimmers. The board has three microprocessors for each of the three phases, and
each has two LED's that signify proper operation. Upon power-up, the Zero-Cross LED's (LED 4, 5 &
6) will go solid, and the RLINK LED's (LED 1, 2 & 3) will blink. Once the SCM boots up, all LED's
should be solidly lit. The reset switch will reset the microprocessors.
