four-digit readout (in pounds of fuel consumed
by both engines) and uses DC power. It should
be reset to zero using the reset button adjacent
to the counter before starting the first engine.

FUEL DISTRIBUTION

GENERAL

Each engine is supplied with fuel from its re-
spective wing fuel system; there is no crossfeed
capability. Either the wing standby pumps or the
wing jet pumps supply fuel under pressure to the
engine-driven pumps. During engine start, the
respective wing standby pump is automatically
energized and the motive-flow valve closed
when the GEN–START switch is placed in the
START position. After the engine is started and
the START switch is moved to the OFF position,
the wing standby pump is deenergized, the mo-
tive-flow valve opens, and the wing jet pump
then provides fuel to the engine. The wing jet
pumps and standby pumps have check valves on
the output side to prevent reverse flow when they
are inactive.

BOOST PUMPS

Submerged DC-powered boost pumps are in-
stalled at three different locations—one standby

pump in each wing adjacent to the jet pump and
one transfer pump in the fuselage tank.

NOTE

Both wing tank standby pumps are
deactivated when the XFER–FILL
switch is in the XFER position.

The wing tank standby pumps are used:

• For engine start (automatically ener-

gized with starter switch activation)

• As a backup for the wing jet pumps

• For wing-to-wing crossflow

• For filling the fuselage tank (automati-

cally energized with the XFER–FILL
switch in the FILL position)

The fuselage tank transfer pump is used to
transfer fuselage tank fuel to the wing tanks.

The wing standby pumps are powered from the
left and right essential buses; the fuselage
pump is powered from the right main bus.
