FUEL DISTRIBUTION
GENERAL
Each engine is supplied with fuel from its re-
spective wing fuel system; there is no cross-
feed capability. Either the wing standby pumps
or the wing jet pumps supply fuel under pres-
sure to the engine-driven pumps.
The wing jet pumps and standby pumps have
check valves on the outboard side to prevent
reverse flow when they are inactive.
BOOST PUMPS
The electric fuel boost pumps are submerged
centrifugal pumps. Powered by 28 VDC, the
pumps have a maximum output of 18 psi and are
controlled by switches on the fuel control panel.
Seven electric fuel pumps are installed on
model 23 airplanes which have not been mod-
ified with jet pumps. A main and standby
pump are located in each wing tank. These
pumps are used to supply fuel to the engines
and for filling the fuselage tank. The pump in
each tip tank transfers the lower half of the tip
tank fuel into the wing tank. The transfer
pump in the fuselage tank directs fuel for-
ward to the wing tanks.

pumps, the standby pumps are hot
wired to the battery.
Airplanes with jet pumps have three electric
fuel pumps. An electric standby pump in each
wing is used for engine start and as a backup
pump for the engine supply as well as for
crossflow and filling of the fuselage tank. The
transfer pump in the fuselage tank directs
fuselage fuel forward to the wing tanks.
MOTIVE-FLOW FUEL
AND JET PUMPS
Excess high-pressure fuel from the engine-
driven fuel pumps is the source of motive-flow
fuel which causes the jet pumps to function.
The fuel is routed through the motive-flow
control valves (one on each side) to the jet
pumps, where it sprays through a small orifice
into a venturi. The low pressure created in the
venturi draws fuel from the respective tank, re-
sulting in a low-pressure, high-volume output
from the jet pump (Figure 5A-7).
