To determine if stray light is causing an interference place a reacted
sample in the colorimeter chamber and scan it by selecting
SCAN
SAMPLE
. Cover the colorimeter chamber with something (i.e. a hand or
any opaque object) and scan it again. If the reading changes, then there is
an interference. If the reading changes only 1 - 2 %T then the
interference is negligible except for the most critical tests. If sample
turbidity is causing a stray light interference, filtration may be needed.
The SMART Colorimeter checks for excessive stray light before scanning
a blank or a sample. The SMART Colorimeter will not scan if it detects
excessive stray light. If the message
STRAY LIGHT!!
appears in the display
a blank or a sample has been scanned, cover the sample chamber and
repeat the scan. The SMART Colorimeter may not detect stray light
interference due to turbidity in samples. These samples should be
checked for stray light interference as described above.
