6 – Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your SC Applicator is an important part keeping the equipment operational
throughout the seed treating season, as well as from year to year. Additionally, a well maintained machine
will provide more consistent and better results. The components that need regular maintenance are listed
in this section
Scale
The seed scale plays an integral role in the treating accuracy of the SC Applicator. This system uses loss-
in-weight technology to determine the flow rate of the seed through the treater, and therefore drives the pump
to apply the correct amount of treatment based on this flow rate. Therefore, an inaccurate scale will have a
direct and negative result on treating inaccuracies. As such, it is important that the scale is calibrated on at
least a yearly basis, and checked regularly throughout use.
To check the accuracy of the scale, place a known weight on the scale (this could be a known weight of
seed) and confirm that the scale on the Automation touch screen is correct.
The scale is not used as a legal for trade scaling device (seed is not sold off of this scale), so the calibration
does not need to be done by a certified scale company. However, you may use a scale company to calibrate
the scale if desired.
To calibrate the scale, follow the process below.
1. Open the automation panel and locate the Cardinal 201 Scale indicator.
2. Unsnap the 201 indicator from the back panel by pulling down and out on
the indicator.
3. Remove the screw on the bottom of the indicator that says “CAL”.
4. Push a small screw driver or item into the hole where the screw was
removed. This will boot the indicator into settings mode.
5. Press advance (F3) until the scale reads “CAL”.
