Checking the Laser Fiber Using the Pilot Laser
The laser fiber must be checked before beginning the treatment or after changing the laser
fiber:
•
Press the
PILOT
key,
—
select the menu
Pilot laser
using the rotary knob,
—
set the pilot beam brightness to the maximum value (100%), see section 5.14 “Pilot
Laser”, page 57.
•
Check the laser fiber along its full length for damages. If red pilot laser light escapes
laterally, this is an obvious sign that the fiber is damaged.
•
Perpendicularly point the pilot laser from a distance of about four centimeters (about 1½'')
onto a bright surface.
The pilot laser light must produce a solid, round red spot on the target area, as illustrated in
the figure on the left. In case of an oversized or unclear pilot laser light spot (examples on the
right) the laser fiber must be checked and replaced if necessary.
CAUTION
Risk of eye injuries!
Switch off the pilot laser if the distal end of the laser fiber or of the focusing handpiece must
be checked for damage!
