Error Checking and Soft Limits
The AC6800 Series instruments include error checking measurements and soft limits that prevent unintended
operations from being carried.
Basic Principles
Settings are not automatically changed by either front-panel or SCPI commands, unless the changes are obvious
and expected.
Improper settings or combination of settings are not allowed for active settings.
User actions which would result in improper active settings generate error messages.
Inactive settings are not checked for errors in response to range changes. If these settings will become active due to
output mode changes, such as switching coupling from AC to DC, or due to the enabling of soft limits, error checks
are performed before making the settings active.
Error checks should be performed in response to the following events:
– Changing Settings invokes Settings Error Checking
– Enabling soft limits invokes Settings Error Checking
– Changing ranges from high to low invokes Range Error Checking
– Changing output coupling invokes Output Coupling Error Checking
– Changing to Step mode invokes Settings Error Check
