Initial Power-Up
When power is applied to the keyboard, a self-test lights all the LEDs and a distinctive power-on
buzzer sound is emitted. The CBR-KB3 briefly displays the software version number on the keyboard
LCD display.

5.1 CBR-KB3 States
Standing by State
In this state, the keyboard is NOT connected to any multiplexer. While in the standby state, no
keystroke or control commands are sent on the bus, only system commands such as Polling are sent.
The top line of the display shows:
The bottom line of the display shows:

The user can change the CBR-KB3’s network ID, or select to connect to any multiplexer that is free by
using the

When connected to a CBR-10/16 multiplexer, the keyboard simulates the front panel of the multiplexer
it controls.
All the CBR-KB3 keys behave in exactly the same way as if the operator controlled the multiplexer
from the front panel itself, with the exception of the
AUX
,
ALT
,
#
, and
TELEMETRY
keys.
5.2 Multiplexer Interfacing
Connecting to A Multiplexer
Connection by an Operator
Since there may be several multiplexers and keyboards connected to the network at the same time, it
is necessary for a keyboard to make a unique connection to a specific multiplexer it wants to control.
By doing this, it can be ensured that all control commands from the keyboard only act on the chosen
multiplexer and do not affect other multiplexers that may in turn be controlled by other keyboards.
