Alternator Drive Belt
Checking and Adjusting

Park the machine on firm, level ground and stop the
engine. If the vehicle has a manually operated load
bay, remove the starter key.

Raise the load bay. If your vehicle has an electric
tipper, ensure that the starter key is removed.

Make sure the engine cannot be started. Disconnect
the battery before doing this job.

Turning the Engine
Do not try to turn the engine by pulling the fan or fan
belt. This could cause injury or premature component
failure.

Inspect the belt for damage and wear.
Renew the belt if necessary.
Note: If applicable, fit the new belt the correct way around
so that any letters or wording can be read from your side.
Keep the belt free from oil and grease.

Check the belt tension.
Apply moderate thumb pressure to the belt between
the crankshaft pulley and the alternator pulley. The
deflection at
should be 7 - 9 mm.

To adjust the tension:
a
Loosen the alternatoor mounting bolts

and

b
Using a lever placed between the alternator and
the engine block, correctly tension the belt.

Re-tighten the mounting bolts.
