WARNING
A raised and badly supported machine can fall on you.
Position the machine on a firm, level surface before
raising one end. Ensure the other end is securely
chocked. Do not rely solely on the machine hydraulics
or jacks to support the machine when working under
it.
Disconnect the battery, to prevent the engine being
started while you are beneath the machine.
GEN-1-1
1
Apply the parking brake and chock the rear wheels.
Disconnect the battery.
2
Raise and properly support the machine. Remove the
front roadwheel, see
Section 3 - Routine
Maintenance.

Disconnect the track rod end from the kingpin,
4
Remove nut
, Pivot bolt
1-G
and washers
.
Remove the kingpin from the suspension arm swivel
boss, noting the locations of the upper and lower
thrust washers.
Inspection
Remove the pivot shaft from the suspension arm swivel
boss.
Inspect all sliding contact surfaces, including thrust
washers. Replace components as necessary.
To replace the bushes, see
Section ‘S’ Suspension
.
Also inspect the stub axle for signs of damage.
When Assembling
Replacement is the reverse of removal, but note the
following:
1
Thoroughly grease all sliding parts during assembly
and grease through the grease nipple after assembly.
2
Ensure that
both
thrust washers (upper and lower)
are fitted.
3
The washer
under the head of the pivot bolt, and
also the washer seating the nut
, are hardened
washers - NOT ordinary washers. If renewing, renew
with correct grade JCB hardened washers.
4
Renew the nut
(grade 12.9) and torque tighten to
72 Nm.
Note: If renewing the pivot bolt 1-G, the correct grade 12.9
must be used.
