5.9 Repairing/Replacing Rear Wheel Tire/Tube
WARNING!

The replacement of the tire or tube MUST be
performed by a qualified technician.
CAUTION!
–
Changing the size of the rear wheels can affect the
performance of the wheelchair. Contact Top End at
the number on the back cover before performing this
procedure.

If replacing rear wheels with a different size than
what was originally on the wheelchair, the front
caster height must also be changed to keep the
wheelchair frame parallel to the floor. Refer to 5.12
Replacing/Adjusting Casters, page 57 ONLY after
contacting Invacare. Anti-tipper height (if applicable)
must also be adjusted to maintain 1-1/2 to 2-inch
(3.81 to 5.08 cm) clearance between bottom of
the anti-tipper wheels and the floor. Refer to 4.18
Adjusting/Replacing Anti-Tipper, page 46 .
5.10 Replacing Quad-Release Axles
1.
Remove rear wheel and existing quick-release axle

from the
wheelchair. Refer to 5.7 Removing/Installing Rear Wheels, page
52 .
2.
Remove existing quick-release axle

from rear wheel.
3.
Insert new quad-release axle through rear wheel hub

4.
Slide locking collar

onto quad-release axle until it is snug
against rear wheel and tighten securely with allen screw

5.
Install the rear wheel and the quad-release axle onto the
wheelchair. Refer to 5.7 Removing/Installing Rear Wheels, page
52 .
6.
Flip the handle of the quad-release axle down to release the
detent pin ensuring that the locking pins are fully released.
7.
If detent pin does not fully release, proceed to 4.8 Adjusting
Quad-Release Handles, page 35
8.
Repeat STEPS 1-7 for the opposite wheel.
