Ingress Mirroring
Figure 5-6
demonstrates Ingress Mirroring with an Analyzer or Probe device at capture port 9.
This device will capture all of the mirrored traffic for analysis and report building.
•
During Ingress Mirroring, the receive traffic at ports 1, 7, and 8 are copied out to the capture
port (port 9) where traffic is processed by the probe.
•
The receiving traffic at each mirror-enabled port will still be forwarded based on the
etherswitch MAC forwarding table such that the mirroring does not interfere with normal
switching operation.
•
To avoid congestion at the capture port, the mirrored traffic should be down-sampled before it
is copied to the capture port.

Egress Mirroring
Figure 5-7
demonstrates Egress Mirroring with an Analyzer or Probe device at the capture port
(port 9). This device will capture all of the mirrored traffic for analysis and report building.
•
During Egress Mirroring, the transmitted traffic at ports 1, 7, and 8 are copied out to the
capture port (port 9) where traffic is processed by the probe.
•
The mirroring of the transmitting traffic at each mirror-enabled port will not interfere
with the normal switching operation.
•
To avoid congestion at the capture port, the mirrored traffic should be down-sampled
before it is copied to the capture port.
