Network Time

FastSwitch supports Simple Network Time Protocol (RFC2030) and Time Protocol (RFC 868).
When configured for SNTP or TP, FastSwitch will receive and use Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
to timestamp the SNMP traps, System Messages and Alarms when they are generated.

When neither SNTP nor TP is configured, the FastSwitch will use a relative System Up Time for
timestamping.

SNTP/TP Client Configuration Procedure

1. Configure FastSwitch for receiving GMT, type:

configure time server add

[SNTP or TP server IP address]

2. Configure FastSwitch for either SNTP or TP by typing one of the following commands:

To configure FastSwitch for SNTP, type:

configure protocol sntp

[SNTP version number]

•

To configure FastSwitch for TP, type:

configure protocol tp

3. Enable the desired protocol by typing:

configure enable time
