Setting up a Typical FastSwitch Network
The following procedure configures the FastSwitch for a typical network deployment. Before
configuring the FastSwitch, ensure that the unit has already been initialized as described in the
previous section:

Note
Some ADMIN mode configuration commands (i.e., enabling the craft port or setting up user accounts)
cannot be accessed or executed via the web interface.

In the configuration sample below, [brackets] indicate user-defined entries or typical entries. For the default
of any configuration setting, use the online help or refer to the listing in

Management Configuration Settings
The first three steps of this procedure are required in order to configure the FastSwitch for
management. You must change the FastSwitch from its default settings, as shown. Throughout this
procedure you can type

1. Configure the HTTP Service to enable access by typing:
services http enable
2. Configure the SNMP Service to enable access by typing:
services snmp enable
3. If desired, enable the Management function and enter the IP information required for Telnet,
web and snmp access by typing:
configure mgt ip-addr
[ip address] [ip mask]
configure mgt enable
Optional Configuration Settings
The remaining steps use default values pre-loaded in the FastSwitch unit. If the default value applies
to your network, you do not need to re-enter it. Otherwise, enter the value that best suits your
network environment. Type

4. Set the system prompt by typing:
configure prompt
[desired prompt name]
5. Configure the Inactivity Timer to disconnect a management session after the desired interval
(in seconds) has elapsed. Range is 0 - 10,000 sec, where 0 disables the timer.

6. Configure SNMP with your site-specific information and enable SNMP for read-only (ro)
access by typing the following commands:
configure snmp community add
[community name]
ro en
configure snmp system name
[your system name]
configure snmp system contact
[your system contact]
configure snmp system location
[your system location]
