6. For user-defined supervisor/admin privilege accounts, use the following syntax:

7. To configure FastSwitch for your user-defined supervisor/admin privilege accounts, type the
following commands:
configure admin $
[name]
$
configure supv $
[name]
$
Note
User-defined accounts on the server must match those on the client (FastSwitch).
8. If desired, enable authentication for supervisor/admin privilege by typing:
configure en-pass enable
Note
If the authentication for the console or the supervisor/admin privilege is enabled but the
authentication is disabled, then the console or supervisor/admin privilege will be locally
authenticated.
9. Authentication banners identify the FastSwitch device a user is trying to access, and whether
local or authentication is in use. If spaces are to be used in the description, use the
“double-quoted string” format. To configure banners, type:
configure banner
[description]
configure banner local
[description]
Verification Procedure
When a FastSwitch device is enabled for authentication, it is highly recommended that
authentication be tested before exiting the FastSwitch configuration session. The
following test verifies whether the server is reachable and responding, and whether the
key is properly configured.
Note
IMPORTANT!
Failure to test the authentication can result in lockout of all users even from the console port.
If possible, observe the console window on the server for any error messages.
1. Ping the server to be sure it can be reached from FastSwitch device:
FASTSWITCH% ping
[IP address]
2. Once the server responds to the ping, test authentication by typing:
configure testing authen
3. Respond to the prompt with your username and password, just like Telnet. After the password
is entered, a pass or fail indication and some diagnostic information will display concerning
message exchange with the server.
4. Test the supervisor/admin password by typing:
configure testing sup-admin
5. Respond to the prompt with your enable password.
