Forwarding and Filtering
The FastSwitch 24 supports IP multicast. The Forwarding and Filtering web page allows the user
to enable/disable IGMP Snooping, Static MAC Addresses and MAC Filtering.
IGMP Snooping
The Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) is an internal protocol of the Internet Protocol
(IP) suite. Multicast traffic is propagated through the network using switches, routers, and hosts that
support IGMP and other multicast protocols.
The IGMP Snooping tab of the Forwarding and Filtering web page enables/disables IGMP
snooping. When enabled, ports will detect IGMP queries and report packets and manage IP
multicast traffic through the switch. IGMP has three types of messages, described below.
Query
This message is sent from the querier (IGMP router or switch) asking for a response from each host
belonging to the multicast group.
Report
This a message is sent by a host to the querier to indicate that the host wants to be or is a member
of a given group indicated in the report message.
Leave Group
This message sent is by a host to the querier to indicate that the host has quit to be a member of a
specific multicast group.
