Step 1020-1
The following steps analyze a failure to load the diagnostic programs.
Note:
You are asked questions regarding the operator panel display. You are also
asked to perform certain actions based on displayed POST indicators.
1. Insert the diagnostic CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Turn off the power.
3. Turn on the power.
4. When the keyboard indicator is displayed (the word
keyboard
on an ASCII terminal
or the keyboard icon on a graphical display), press the F5 key on the directly
attached keyboard or the number 5 key on an ASCII terminal.
5. Enter a password, if you are requested.
6. Wait until the diagnostics are loaded or the system appears to stop.
7. Find your symptom in the following table. Then follow the instructions given in the
Action column.
Symptom
Action
The diskette LED is blinking rapidly, or EIEA or
EIEB is displayed on the operator panel.
The flash EPROM data is corrupted. Run the
recovery procedure for the flash EPROM. See
“Firmware Recovery” on page 207.
The system stops with a prompt to enter a
password.
Enter the password. You are not allowed to
continue until a valid password has been
entered. When you have entered a valid
password, go to the beginning of this table and
wait for one of the other conditions to occur.
The diagnostic operating instructions are
displayed.
Go to MAP 0020 in the
RS/6000 and
Eserver
pSeries Diagnostics Information for Multiple Bus

The system login prompt is displayed.
You may not have pressed the correct key or
you may not have pressed the key soon
enough when you were to indicate a service
mode IPL of the diagnostic programs. If this
was the case, start over at the beginning of this
step.
Note:
Perform the system shutdown procedure
before turning off the system.
If you are sure you pressed the correct key in a
timely manner, go to “Step 1020-2” on page 37.
The system does not respond when the
password is entered.
