Security Prohibited Function
A function was attempted which is prohibited due to the
current security settings.
81
A thermal sensor inside the drive detected an
over-temperature condition.
1.
If you suspect that the problem is due to environmental
conditions, you can order and use a data logger tool
(P/N 45P5917) to record ambient temperature. Contact
your next level of support for procedures to correct this
condition.
2.
If the environmental conditions are within specifications
and the problem persists, replace the drive canister.
82
The drive detected that an input voltage is out
of range, a power supply has failed, or a
power supply cooling fan has failed.
• Be aware that this error can only be triggered when a
cartridge is loaded into the drive.
• This error can take as long as fifty minutes to be reported
after the condition is detected.
83
The drive detected a drive microcode fault.
• From the host, write down the support data (12-character
string).
• Call your next level of support with the FID and support
data to determine if this problem is new or a known
problem.
84
The drive detected a timing problem in the
drive microcode or drive electronics.
• Microcode problem 50%
• Drive canister 40%
• Power supply units 7%
• Back board 3%
85
The drive detected a read, read/write, or
track following error.
• Cartridge problem. Run Media Test and Head Test. See
“Running Drive Diagnostics” on page 7-6.
• Drive canister problem. See “Replacing a Tape Drive
Canister or FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal” on page 9-11.
86
The drive detected a drive hardware or media
fault.
• Cartridge problem. Run the Media Test and Head Test.
See “Running Drive Diagnostics” on page 7-6.
• Drive canister problem. See “Replacing a Tape Drive
Canister or FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal” on page 9-11.
87
The drive detected a cartridge/media
problem.
• Ensure the cartridge has not been damaged.
• Retry the job with a different cartridge.
• Run the Library Verify test. See “Running Library Verify
8A
The drive detected degraded drive hardware.
The drive will continue to operate, but with
degraded performance.
Drive canister problem. See “Replacing a Tape Drive
Canister or FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal” on page 9-11.

The drive detected that its World Wide ID is
blank, invalid, or unreadable.
Drive canister problem. See “Replacing a Tape Drive
Canister or FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal” on page 9-11.
AD
The drive detected a mismatch between the
drive VPD and the fixed tray BVPD.
From the Web User Interface, use
Service Library
→
Reset
Library/Drives
to set the library to its default settings.
AE
The drive detected a hardware problem with
the fixed tray BVPD.
• Drive docking card 90%. See “Replacing the Drive
• Drive canister 10%. See “Replacing a Tape Drive Canister
or FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal” on page 9-11.
