6. Grasp the drive canister handle ( in Figure 9-9) and carefully but firmly push
the drive into position. Ensure that the connectors to the right correctly align and
fully engage with the drive docking card.
7. Lower the locking lever ( in Figure 9-9) until it snaps into place.
8. Take the library back online. See “Taking the Library Offline/Online” on
page 7-23.
9. Verify that the drive has the latest firmware installed. Upgrade, if necessary. See
“Methods of Updating Firmware” on page 7-20.
10. Configure the library to incorporate the new drive. See “Configuring the
Library” on page 6-22.
Replacing a Tape Drive Canister or FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal

The TS3400 Tape Library tape drives can be hot-swapped. It is not necessary to power
OFF the library to replace a single drive.
Note: If there are two tape drives in the library, ensure that the customer had
disabled partitioning in the library configuration settings before continuing
with this procedure.
Removal Procedure
1. Take the library offline. See “Taking the Library Offline/Online” on page 7-23.
2. Unload any cartridge still in the tape drive using the Operator Panel or the Web
User Interface.
3. Disconnect the fibre channel host interface cable ( in Figure 9-8).
