4. From the top menu of the Operator Panel, press the Down button to select
Service Mode , and press Enter.
5. Press the Down button to select Drive Replacement , and press Enter.
For information describing the function of this menu command, see “Replacing a
Drive” on page 7-7.
6. Select the required drive to replace, and press Enter.
7. Select Begins Replacement , and press Enter.

8. Push up on the locking lever ( in Figure 9-9) and grasp the drive canister
handle ( in Figure 9-9). Firmly pull back on the handle enough to disengage the
drive canister.
9. Use your other hand to support the drive canister from the underside as you
remove the drive canister from the tray assembly.
10. If you are removing both drives, clearly label each tape drive so that it can be
returned to the same location in the library.
11. If there is a cartridge stuck in the drive, see “Removing a Cartridge from a Drive
Manually” on page 9-45. If not, complete the drive replacement.
12. ( FC 1663 Tape Drive Removal only ) Install the drive cover plate with the drive
cover plate received with Feature Code 1663.
At this point, FC 1663 tape drive removal is complete. The drive is now the
property of the customer and should be given to the customer for further
disposition. Before returning the library back to the customer, complete Step 11,
Step 12, and Step 14 in the replacement procedure.

CAUTION:
Do not plug in the host fibre cable until after the “Finishes
Replacement” process is complete, and the drive has had its code
updated, finished its POST, and Library Verify completed. If not, a
temporarily incorrect Loop ID and/or World Wide Node Name may
result.
