Identifying a subsystem or Disk Drive Module Using Service Mode
To identify a disk drive module:
1. Start the SSA Remote Systems Management Function.
2. Select the SSA Disk View for the module you want to identify.

Use the Flash On button to cause the check light on the disk drive module and
the check light of the D40 or T40 unit to flash or Identify. You can use the disk
drive serial number that is on the label on the front of the module to further check
the identification of the module.

Use the Flash Off button to cancel the Identify function.
Note that a system can be identified by selecting a disk drive in that system with the
SSA Remote Systems Management Identify function.
3. Select Physical View
4. Select Disk Drive
5. In SSA Disk View for the module that you place in Service Mode.
Note: Only disk drives that are ’Free’ can be put into Service Mode
6. Using the Service Mode button issues a Stop Unit command to the selected disk
drive and place it in service mode. This causes the selected disk drive’s check light
to turn on and the status lights on the adjacent SSA devices to flash.
7. Select the Physical View and use the Reset button to remove the Service Mode
on the selected device.
Note: Only a disk drive that is in a complete loop or that is at the end of a string
can be put into Service Mode.
Problem Determination
If you have a problem with a 7133 SSA Disk Subsystem, refer to the Installation and
User’s Guide for your SSA adapter. That book describes how to deal with basic
problems.
Checking the SSA Error Log
To check the SSA error log:
1. Start the Remote Systems Management function.
2. Select the SSA Adapter List.
3. Click on the Event Logger button.
4. Click on the Analyze button.
This will cause the SSA Error Log to be analyzed and the results will be displayed. Use
the Help function to assist you to understand the displayed results.
