Asset ID
This option enables or disables POST notification each time
an asset control violation occurs. See “Asset ID capability”
on page 51 for general information about Asset ID.
Advanced Setup
If you select the Advanced Setup option from the Configuration/Setup Utility main
menu, you can view and, in some cases, change settings for advanced hardware
features, including ROM shadowing, PCI control, and Plug and Play Control. If
your computer came with a Pentium III microprocessor, you can also use Advanced
Setup to enable the processor serial number feature for enhanced security with
Internet transactions. For more information on enabling the processor serial
number, see :hdref=piii.. These settings must be configured correctly; otherwise,
your computer might malfunction.

Cache Control
Cache State
Cache Size
The Cache Control menu shows how much cache memory
is installed and lets you enable or disable its use.
Cache memory is special buffer storage that holds
frequently used instructions and data, and works faster
than main memory. With cache memory enabled, most of
your programs will run faster. If you run programs that
require slower speeds, you can disable cache memory to
slow down your computer.
ROM Shadowing
The ROM Shadowing menu shows which system devices
are using read-only memory (ROM) shadowing. With
ROM shadowing, your computer stores data from the
specified device in random access memory (RAM).
Because your computer can access data in RAM faster than
it can access data from ROM, programs run faster when
ROM shadowing is enabled.
If you install an adapter that has its own ROM, you can
enable the ROM shadowing option for that adapter to
speed up its performance.
Note:
The ROM Shadowing option might not work on
adapters that use memory-mapped I/O, such as
network adapters.
