40 Getting Started
Importing SIM contacts
When you turn on your device for the first time, it installs customized settings and
then displays the
SIM Card Changed
screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to
import all SIM contacts to your device.
Note
Tap
Cancel
if you do not want to import SIM contacts at this time. You can use the SIM
Manager program anytime to import your SIM contacts. For instructions, see “To copy
SIM contacts to your device” in Chapter 1.
Switching to Sleep mode
Briefly press the POWER button to turn off the display temporarily and switch your
device to
Sleep mode
. Sleep mode suspends your device to a low power state
while the display is off in order to save battery power.
Your device automatically goes into Sleep mode when you leave the device idle
after a certain period of time. You will still be able to receive messages and calls
while your device is in Sleep mode.
Note
You can set the timeout period for Sleep mode. For instructions, see “To automatically
turn off the screen backlight when the device is not in use” in Chapter 1.
Your device wakes up automatically when you receive an incoming call or a
notification, such as a new text message or appointment reminder. To wake up your
device manually, briefly press the POWER button.
Checking battery power
To check the current battery level, refer to the battery status icon that is shown on
the upper-right side of the screen. You can also tap
Start > Settings > System
tab
>
Power
to check the battery level.
When the low-battery warning appears, make sure to save any unsaved data or files
and connect the power adapter to charge the battery. See “Charging the Battery”
earlier in this chapter for details.
