4. Set the pick-up gauge to the either end of the crankshaft.
Move the crankshaft to thrust direction and measure the free play.
5. Replace the thrust shim so that the crankshaft thrust play is within the stan-
dard value.
Standard: 0.20 – 0.30 mm (0.008 – 0.012 in)
Do not select the two A shims (maximum thickness shim) or C shims (mini-
mum thickness shim).

Balancer Backlash Adjustment
Adjust the balancer backlash while the engine is cold (below 35˚C/95˚F) and
engine off.
Loosen the balancer shaft holder pinch bolt.
Turn the balancer shaft counterclockwise turn until the resistance is felt, then
return 2 graduations.
Do not turn the balancer shaft more than necessary so the balancer gear, bear-
ing and shaft are damaged.
Tighten the balancer shaft holder pinch bolt to the specified torque.
Torque: 12 N•m (1.2 kgf•m, 9 lbf•ft)
