4 Troubleshooting Your PC
Recovering Hard Disk Contents
78
English
The latest versions of all the drivers (and the corresponding
installation notes) can be obtained from the HP Web site
(
http://www.hp.com/go/vectrasupport
).
Basic Installation
This assumes you have either a CD-ROM drive connected to the PC or,
preferably, you have restored the contents of the I386 directory as
described earlier (with the SP3 subdirectory).
1
Install NT 4.0 by running WINNT with the /B option to avoid the use
of flexible disks. Follow any instructions that are displayed.
2
When prompted for the type of file system, choose FAT or NTFS.
Note that NTFS is 32-bit, can handle very large partitions but might
cause problems for FAT type utilities.
3
In the second step after the first reboot called "Installing Windows
NT Networking" skip the network installation during setup by
selecting the option "Do not connect this computer to a network at
this time".
4
Confirm the VGA compatible display adapter as video adapter at the
end of the setup process.
5
After the reboot you will have a basic version of NT 4.0 installed.
OPTIONAL
If you install from CD-ROM, then you should copy the i386
directory from the CD-ROM to your HDD (it is approximately
78 MB). Also create an SP3 subdirectory to copy the Service
Pack 3 software into.
Installing NT 4 Service
Pack 3
The Service Pack 3 files are in the directory i386\Sp3\i386. If you’re
recreating the hard disk contents, create these directories and load all
the files from SP3. If you don’t have it, go to the Microsoft Web site and
download this file (
http://www.microsoft.com
).
Run UPDATE.EXE and follow the instructions. Don’t forget to make an
uninstall directory (you will be prompted to do so in the Service Pack
installation procedure).
