The
Support
Media
con
tain
a

the
HP-UX
op erating
system
called
the
Support
Kernel.
The
Support
Kernel
con
tains
a
memory-based
le
system
and
functions
indep enden
tly
of
the
system
disk.
Prior
to
using
one
of
the
Support
Media,
y
ou
should
understand
these
things:
The
Support
Kernel
requires
a
minimum
hardw
are
conguration
to
prop erly
function.
The
minimum
conguration
constists
of
16
Mb
ytes
of
memory
and
an
I/O
path
to
console
and
DDS
or
CD
R
OM
driv
e.
The
memory-based
le
system
is
m
uc
h
smaller
than
the
t
ypical
disk-based
le
system.
When
the
memory-based
le
system
is
full,
y
ou
m
ust
remov
e
some
of
the
existing
les
prior
to
loading
an
y
new
les.
The
total
memory
used
b
y
the
Support
Kernel
is
appro
ximately
6
megab
ytes.
The
remaining
memory
can
b e
used
to
run
programs.
An
y
program
that
runs
on
HP-UX
can
run
on
the
Support
Kernel,
sub
ject
to
the
follo wing
limitations:
The
program
cannot
attempt
to
use
sw
ap.
The
program
cannot
rely
on
the
existence
of
sw
ap.
The
program's
sticky
bit
cannot
b e
set.
Booting
the
Support
Medium
If
the
system
cannot

the
system
disk,
and

steps:
