TROUBLESHOOTING MINOR DEVICE FAILURES
Minor Device Failures result in the partial, temporary,
occasionally permanent disability of the W7600A-F algo-
rithms. These failures rarely disable the entire operation of
the W7600 and are indicated by the W7600A-F LED
blinking at a rate of 25 on and off blinks per 10 second
interval.
These failures and alarms are logged in the NIU alarm
file. The *ALARM* banner is also displayed on the S7600A.
Encountering minor device failures may indicate that
the W7600A-F should be reprogrammed, or data files
downloaded, through the ZM7601/ZM7603 Software.
Following are all possible minor device failures, pre-
scribed symptoms, and required action:
Failure
Watchdog Failure
Symptoms
• W7600A-F LED is blinking
at a rate of 25 on and off blinks
per 10 second period.
•
Watchdog Hardware Failure
displayed on the S7600A.
Cause
Watchdog circuit cannot confirm
W7600A-F firmware operation.
W7600A-F Action
W7600A-F continues to operate
normally.
Remedies
Power down device, reapply
power, and observe operating con-
dition. Repeat process if desired.
If this process fails, replace
W7600A-F Control Module.
Checksum Failures
A checksum is a number that is calculated by adding
together numerical representations of specific database
items. This technique is similar to one used in the banking
industry to make sure that bank proof operators or proof
machines have correctly recorded banking transactions.
The W7600A-F continuously performs a checksum cal-
culation to guarantee the integrity of the data in the W7600A-F
database.
The W7600 database has been divided into 28 checksum
groups. A failure in one group may prevent operation of the
W7600A-F programs associated with that data, but other
W7600A-F operations will proceed normally.
There are three types of files—CONFIGURATION,
PARAMETER and STATUS.
CONFIGURATION files are critical to the control of
the W7600 System. Configuration files contain informa-
tion about digital and analog physical and remote point
identities. If a user changes information in one of these
files, the W7600 System does a controlled reset so that the
controller can begin with the new configuration informa-
tion.
NOTE: Evidence of download and controlled reset is that the
controller goes off-line for several seconds while the data
is downloaded to the W7600A-F from the computer.
NOTE: Some W7600A-F file errors can affect the perfor-
mance of the W7600 System. If file integrity is suspected,
the ZM7601/ZM7603 Software must be used to
redownload affected configuration files. Refer to form
63-4272 for instructions.
PARAMETER files contain information about the char-
acteristics of control. These files include clock information,
set points and control information, time schedule informa-
tion, alarm information and access codes. The user may
change this information through the ZM7601/ZM7603 Soft-
ware without causing the W7600A-F to go through a
controlled reset. In other words, the information may be
changed while the W7600A-F is operating.
STATUS files contain snapshot information of the cur-
rent status of the W7600A-F. This information is available
on demand while the user is connected to the W7600A-F
Control Module through the ZM7601/ZM7603 Software
or from the S7600A review displays.
The configuration and parameter files that experience
checksum errors will be reset to their default values. Status
files are not checksummed as they are continuously up-
dated. The S7600B will display
*ALARM*
in the upper
right corner.
Troubleshooting information for all possible checksum
failures as follows:
Failure
AI (Analog Input) configura
tion file lost.
Symptoms
Analog Input Config Has Been
Lost
displayed on the S7600A.
Cause
Checksum error in analog input
configuration database.
W7600A-F continues to operate
normally except for algorithms
that use analog inputs. These al-
gorithms are disabled.
Remedies
Reconfigure all analog inputs us-
ing existing archived database
from ZM7601/ZM7603 Soft-
ware. File group in ZM7601/
ZM7603 Software to download
to W7600A-F is All Files or the
selected independent file Analog
Input Configuration.
Failure
DI (Digital Input) configuration
file lost.
Symptoms
Digital Input Config Has Been
Lost
displayed on the S7600A.
Cause

configuration database.

normally, except for algorithms
that use digital inputs. These al-
gorithms are disabled.
