MAINTENANCE
3-20
Turn the handlebar to the right side so that the res-
ervoir is level and check the clutch reservoir fluid
level through the sight glass.
If the level is near the “LOWER” level mark, remove
the reservoir cap, set plate and diaphragm, and fill
the reservoir with DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed
container to the casting ledge.
Install the diaphragm, set plate and reservoir cap
and tighten the cap screws.
REVERSE OPERATION
Sit astride the motorcycle with both feet on the
ground.
Shift the transmission into neutral, retract the side
stand and start the engine.
Push the reverse switch and check that the neutral
indicator goes off and the reverse indicator comes
on.
Check that the motorcycle moves in reverse while
pushing the starter/reverse switch.
For reverse system inspection, see section 18.
SIDE STAND
Place the motorcycle on its center stand.
Check the side stand spring for damage or loss of
tension.
Check the side stand assembly for freedom of
movement and lubricate the side stand pivot if
necessary.
Check the side stand ignition cut-off system:
– Sit astride the motorcycle and raise the side
stand.
– Start the engine with the transmission in neu-
tral, then shift the transmission into gear, while
squeezing the clutch lever.
– Fully lower the side stand.
– The engine should stop as the side stand is
lowered.
If there is a problem with the system, check the side
stand switch (page 20-39).
