Laying the motor connection lead
The cable holders described here are not part of
standard supply of the recirculation pump.
Lay cable holder (2) with rubber sleeve (3) just above
the recirculation pump around the connecting cable and
screw it on with a hexagon bolt. Hook karabiners (4) and
steel cable or chain (5) into the cable holder (2).
The connection cables must always be laid so that
they cannot find their way into the propeller or be-
come subject to tension. Mount second cable holder
directly below the shackle (6) in the same way. Mount
all other cable holders in the same way, so that the
distances between them increase corresponding
with the increasing distance from the recirculation
pump. Hang connection cable from cable hook with
strain relief.
5.3. Commissioning
The recirculation pump must not run dry, since the
engine can overheat during a dry run, leading to
damage.
The recirculation pump may only be put into opera-
tion if the checks have been made according to
Chapter 5 and it has been ensured that there are no
obstructions in the stirring tank. In addition, it must
be ensured that the recirculation pump is submerged
up to at least half of the propeller diameter.
Furthermore, it must be ensured that no personnel can ac-
cidentally fall into the pool. The protective devices provid-
ed for this purpose (covers, railings, etc.) must be mount-
ed. During prolonged shutdown of the recirculation pump,
the housing outside the stirring basin should be cleaned
of dried mix medium before recommissioning. Not doing
so may result in deterioration of the natural cooling during
operation.
5.4. Electrics
The selection and laying of electrical lines and the con-
nection of the motor must comply with the appropriate
local and VDE regulations. The motor must be protected
with a motor protection switch. Have the motor connect-
ed in accordance with the wiring diagram. Pay attention
to the direction of rotation! If the direction of rotation is
incorrect, the machine will not perform as stated and un-
der unfavourable circumstances, thus it may be damaged.
Check the operating voltage and ensure a a uniform cur-
rent consumption during all phases in accordance with the
machine data sheet. Make sure that all temperature sen-
sors and monitoring devices are connected and checked
for proper function.
Danger due to electric current! Improper use of elec-
tricity can be fatal! All pumps with free cable ends
must be connected by a qualified electrician.
5.5. Motor protection
The minimum requirement is a thermal relay / motor pro-
tection switch with temperature compensation, differen-
tial triggering and restart lockout in accordance with VDE
0660 or the corresponding national regulations. If the
machines are connected to grids in which interference
frequently occurs, we recommend the additional instal-
lation of protective devices (e.g. over-voltage, under-volt-
age or phase failure relays, lightning protection etc.). The
machine must be connected in compliance with local and
legal regulations.
5.6. Operation with static frequency converter
The following points are to be taken into account for oper-
ation with a frequency converter:
•
The pump is suitable for operation with a frequency
converter in accordance with DIN EN 60034-17
•
Voltage spikes on the motor windings must be avoid-
ed and, if appropriate, provide suitable filters in the
motor cable
•
It should be ensured that the overall system is
grounded properly
•
Information from the frequency converter manufac-
turer must be complied with
•
Shielded cable may be required in some circumstanc-
es for compliance with EMC guidelines
•
The code of practice „Use of HOMA pumps with a
frequency converter“ must be complied with
5.7. Start-up modes
Start-up modes with cables with free ends (without plugs)
Star-delta activation
If the motor protection is installed in the line: Set the mo-
tor protection to 0.58 x rated current. The starting time in
the star connection must not exceed 3s max.
If the motor protection is not installed in the line: Under
full load, set the motor protection to the rated current.
Switching on with starter transformer / soft starting
Under full load, the motor protection should be set to the
rated current. Under partial-load operation, it is recom-
mended that the motor protection be set 5% above the
measured current at the operating point.
