Statistics show that most fire casualties are not caused by direct
flame, but by less visible smoke (products of combustion). The smoke
detector responds to both visible and invisible products of combustion.
The smoke detector will automatically return from alarm to normal
state when the reason for activation, the presence of smoke, is com-
pletely removed. Common causes of fires are smoking in bed, leaving
children unattended or using flammable cleaning fluids. Please be
safety conscious and avoid unnecessary risk.
WARNING: There is no way to insure there will be
no injury or loss of life in a fire; however, the smoke
detector is intended to help reduce the risk of
tragedy. Additional smoke detectors may help to
reduce the risk. Proper use and care of the smoke
detector could save lives.
To test the electronics of the alarm, press the test button on the cover of
the smoke alarm for a few seconds. The smoke alarm will sound by making a
continuous loud beep. To complete the test sequence release the button and
the alarm should stop.
NOTE: Test the smoke alarm operation after the
motorhome has been in storage, before each trip and at
least once a week during use.
Vacuum the slots in the cover and sides with a soft brush attachment
every month. The smoke alarm should be cleaned every six months to help
keep the unit working efficiently.
The battery should power the smoke alarm for at least one year under
normal use. When the battery reaches the end of its normal life a low battery
warning (intermittent beeping) will indicate the need for battery replacement.
It may be practical to replace the battery during the time changes in the
spring and fall.
If the alarm does not sound when the test button is pushed, or with a
smoke test, try the following:
• Inspect for obvious damage.
• Check for the recommended battery type.
• Check the battery for proper connection, or replace
the battery if needed.
• Gently vacuum as recommended.
