5. Engine starts. Stops after a
few seconds by automatic
shut-down. a. The shut-down circuit may
have functioned normally
to stop the engine because
of low lubricating oil
pressure.
Re-start the engine, hold
permissive start switch in
START position, and observe oil
pressure gage. If oil pressure is
12 psi or more, and the engine
shuts down when the permissive
start switch is released to the
RUN position, put a jumper wire
across oil pressure switch
terminals “C” and “NO”. Restart
engine. If the engine continues
to run when the permissive start
switch is released to the RUN
position, the oil pressure switch
is defective. Replace oil
pressure switch.
b. Defective or incorrectly
wired high temperature
switch (S49, located on the
engine block on the right
side).
Check wiring to high
temperature switch. Two
yellow-blue wires should be
connected to N.O. terminal.
One Red-Yellow wire should be
connected to C terminal. With
wires removed, check
resistance between terminals C
and N.C. A resistance reading
of zero indicates a good
temperature switch. A readable
resistance indicates a defective
switch. Replace switch.
6. Engine runs at idle speed.
Engine “ON” indicating light
(27, Fig. 1) does not glow. a. Lamp defective. Replace lamp.
b. Indicating light body poorly
grounded.
Be sure light is grounded
properly.
7. Engine will not come “up” to
governed speed in GEN mode. a. 12-V DC power not
reaching governor control
box due to defective
operating mode switch (18,
Fig. 1)
Refer to connection diagram
282685. At the terminal strip
located next to the controller
(A10), and from which the
controller is wired, apply 12-V
DC directly to terminal “1" (the
bottom terminal) on governor
control box. If engine comes-up
to speed, check the following:
b. Governor linkage binding
or governor throttle sticking
Check governor linkage and
throttle shaft for binding and
sticking. Repair as required.
