Getting Started

The most important step in setting up your Havahart

®

 Radial-Shape 2 Wireless

Dog Fence is determining the proper location to mount the Controller. Choose
a location inside the home on an outer wall nearest the center of the desired
circular containment area (see Factors Affecting Signal Strength on Page 8).

The following are sample layouts for your reference:

Roaming Area contains part of neighbors’ property and
extends onto the road. Consequences could be severe.

Dog has limited access to house and yard within Roaming
Area. Collar should be removed upon entering house,
otherwise your dog will be corrected inside the home.

Your Fence Boundary/ Trigger Zone
should NOT be closer than 20 feet to ANY
ROAD, SIDEWALK OR THOROUGHFARE
FOR YOUR DOG’S SAFETY.

 IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Before you begin the installation process, be sure to check the following:

Make sure that you have all system components ready and available.

Insert a fully charged  Battery into the Collar.

Commit to set aside time to properly train your dog.

QUICK CHECKLIST

Flag Calculator:  You should have 1 flag for every foot of your fence radius distance.  If you have a 90 foot
radius, you will need 90 flags to enclose your Roaming Area.

Planning Your Wireless Fence Boundary:

Factors Affecting Signal Strength

NOTE: Once set, your Fence Boundary/Trigger Zone will remain consistent.

Various objects can interfere with the signal strength of your Wireless Fence. This can result
in a gradual loss in the measured distance of the radio signal from the Controller to a set
Trigger Zone. The part of the Trigger Zone that is obstructed by an object may dip or bow
inward toward the Controller or create a criss-cross. The resulting shape of the Trigger
Zone may be slightly different than a perfect circle and the Roaming Area may be slightly
reduced. When this happens, the object between the Controller and the set Trigger Zone
is said to attenuate the radio signal or the Trigger Zone.

Obstacles that can slightly obstruct any wireless signal include: mirrors, microwaves, home appliances, electric power meters, air
conditioning units, metal screened porches, metal downspouts, trees, large bushes, above-ground pools, sheds and sloping hills.

Objects that will cause considerable obstruction are aluminum siding, densely wooded lots and heavily landscaped properties.

The closer an obstructing object is to the Trigger
Zone or the closer a metallic object (such as a mirror)
is to the Controller, the greater the interfering
effect it can have on the Trigger Zone. Likewise,
the more dense an obstructing object is, the more
severe the dip or shaping effect of the Trigger Zone.

Without performing complex calculations and accounting for all factors, it is very difficult to predict the exact amount of
interference different objects can cause and how the Trigger Zone and Roaming Area will be affected.

Despite all of the measures Havahart Wireless has taken to boost the signal strength of the Controller, attenuation is difficult to totally
prevent for any wireless fence system. Similar to the way buildings attenuate cell phone reception, your home will likely attenuate
your dog’s Roaming Area. In most cases the resulting dipping should be a minor issue that may not even be noticed.

In the event that your system experiences severe interference or attenuation with which you are not comfortable, there are a few
things that you can try to counter or lessen the effects:

Place the Controller above or at least 3 feet away from appliances and other large metal objects like mirrors inside the home.

Also make sure there are no obstructing objects, such as an electric power meter, near or immediately outside the wall

where your Controller is are placed.  The less material or objects the Controller’s signals have to go through to reach the

outside, the better.

Raise the Controller to 6-8ft off the ground or to a higher floor of the home.

Expand the fence boundary by increasing the fence radius on the Controller.

If the first three methods prove ineffective, choosing different Controller locations in the home may be necessary.

Should you need additional help to minimize wireless signal interference for your Havahart
