Or you should provide an adequate edge protection before starting work. (edge protection must be attached safely in
sufficient length/size over the whole working area/edge - it must not be able to slip or fall down etc.)
•
In case of unclarity and doubt do not use the equipment and/or contact the manufacturer.
2. The anchor point must not be on the same level as the edge (sharp edge), where the risk of falling is given.
3. The redirecting angle on the edge, where the risk of falling is given, should not exceed 90° (measured between both
redirected rope ends).
4. The necessary free space below the crash edge, where the risk of falling is given, results from the application and the
used equipment. The following are meant to be pure reference values. The risk assessment of a possible falling height
can be assisted by the following items:
•
Lanyard length must not exceed 50 cm to a guided type fall arrester on a flexible anchor line
= 0.50 m
•
The fall arrester can slide up to a maximum of 50 cm on the rope
= 0.50 m
•
Tape fall absorber can open up to a length of max. 175 cm
= 1.75 m
•
Fall arrester eyelet on the full body harness moves up to 50 cm on the body
= 0.50 m
•
The free space below the feet should be not less than 50 cm
= 0.50 m
•
Oscillating (anchor point not vertically above the user) can only be estimated.
= ?.?? m
•
Furthermore no general length can be indicated, if the product “EDGER” sharp edge rope is uses as a rig
= ?.?? m
This leads to a free space below the crash edge of not less than
= 4.00 m
CAUTION:
The above mentioned lengths and heights are pure reference values and do not release the user from his own risk
assessment or evaluation of the working place.
5. In order to attenuate a fall leading to an oscillation (oscillating moment), take care that the working place or the
eventual lateral movement during work is limited to at least 1.50 m on both sides.
d)
In the risk assessment/evaluation of a work place you must consider the injury risk during a fall from a height due to building
projection, scaffolding structures, steel girders, wooden beams and structural work.
e)
The risk assessment/evaluation of the work place must also prepare for an eventual emergency scenario to be available ready
for use or assembled.
Note:
The
items b) and c)
of the PPE-Directive 89/686/EEC – CNB/P/11.054 are not dealt with herein, since these two items refer
specifically to retractable type fall arresters.
The sharp edge rope „EDGER“ withstood all tests without dropping the test weight of 100 kg.
Nevertheless you must always pay attention to any eventual rope damage, because the rope coating may have been damaged on
the sharp edge, which consequently leads to an elimination of the item. Therefore it is recommended to take additional precautionary
measures to protect the sharp edge rope „EDGER“ and to use the edge protector.
By this you can increase the life of the sharp edge rope „EDGER“.
6.1 When using the sharp edge rope „EDGER“ as restraint system:
Hook in the sharp edge rope at the anchor point (EN795) and adjust it with the rope adjuster, so that a fall over the edge is avoided.
The length must be adjusted in a way that reaching a place with risk of falling from a height can be AVOIDED. Always take care
to avoid slack rope and keep the rope adjuster as short as possible. Best practise is always using the fall arrester eyelet on the full
body harness (either on the front in the chest area or in the back area between the shoulder blades - marked with A). Always use an
energy-absorbing lanyard EN 355 - this reduces the occurring force by an eventual fall.
6.2 When using the sharp edge rope „EDGER“ as guided type fall arrester with flexible
anchor line:
For safety reasons you should always carry out an operational test before use. For this lead the device on the lanyard or energy-
absorbing lanyard upwards, then pull it quickly downwards. The fall arrester must easily run upwards and block immediately
downwards! Hook the sharp edge rope into the anchor point (EN795) as horizontally as possible above the user (avoid possible
swinging falls). The guided type fall arrester „EDGER“ is permanently mounted to the sharp edge rope and cannot be removed.
When climbing the flexible anchor line, the guided type fall arrester travels independently with it and must only be taken down when
descending by pushing/releasing the safety catch.
In case of a fall from a height the device stops the fall by blocking the rope. The fall arrester eyelet on the full body harness must
always be used (either on the front in the chest area or in the back area between the shoulder blades - marked with A).
Attention: Always use the shortest possible length of the lanyard between the fall arrester and full body harness (pay
attention to the authorisation according to EN 354). The length of the lanyard must never exceed 50 cm!!!
Always use an energy-absorbing lanyard EN 355 - this reduces the occurring force by an eventual fall. The energy-absorbing lanyard
can extend to max. 1.75 m. The fall arrester can move down the rope max. 0.5 m. Take care there is sufficient free space below the
eventual crash site.
The position of the anchor point should always be chosen in a way that the fall distance is limited to a minimum.
Take care that the fall zone is calculated so that the user does not fall onto an obstacle in case of a fall from a height and that impact
on the ground is impossible. Take care to avoid slack rope and never climb over the anchor point (see pic. 1/page 7).
In order to make the guided type fall arrester „EDGER“ run more smoothly on the flexible anchor line (sharp edge rope „EDGER“)
and to avoid a slack rope, we recommend fixing a weight on the lower end of the rope (e. g. euroline ballast bag 5 kg). So the rope is
