In case of compliance with all instructions for safe handling and storage, following
non-binding lifetime recommendations can
be made:
•
Intensive everyday use ................................ less than 1 year
•
Regular year-round use ...............................1 year to 2 years
•
Regular seasonal use ...................................2 to 3 years
•
Occasional use (once a month) ................... 3 to 4 years
•
Sporadic use .................................................5 to 7 years
Metal fittings such as buckles, carabiners, etc. ...:
The lifetime of metal fittings is basically unlimited, but they must also be subjected to periodic inspections that cover damage/wear
and deformation.
With use of different materials in a product, the period of use depends on the more sensitive materials.
Extreme operating conditions can make the elimination of a product necessary after a single application (type and intensity of use,
application, aggressive environments, sharp edges, extreme temperatures, chemicals, etc.).
A PPE against falls from a height must always be eliminated:
•
if there is damage to load-bearing components essential for safety, such as belts and seams (cracks, cuts or other)
•
in case of damage to plastic and/or metal fittings
•
in case of stress due to a fall or heavy load
•
after expiry of the period of use
•
if a product appears not to be safe or reliable if the product is outdated and no longer meets the technical standards
(change of legal regulations, standards and technical regulations, incompatibility with other equipment, etc.)
•
if the history of use is unknown or incomplete (inspection logbook)
•
if product labels no longer exist, are unreadable or missing (even partially)
•
if the instruction manual/logbook of the product is missing (because the product‘s history can not be traced!)
•
See also section: 2) Regulations for the holder of the equipment
If a visual inspection by the user, equipment owner or a QP has revealed defects or if the PPE‘s lifetime has expired, it must be
eliminated. The elimination must be done in such a manner that reuse is excluded with certainty (e.g. by cutting and disposing of the
straps, fittings, etc.).
In case of frequent use, intensive wear and extreme environmental conditions, the allowed period of use is shortened. The decision
on the applicability of the device must always be taken by the responsible COMPETENT PERSON within the prescribed periodic
inspection period.

A. Haberkorn & Co GmbH is not liable for any direct, indirect or accidental consequences or for any kind of damage resulting from
the use of their products.

Application
The sharp edge rope „EDGER“ may only be used with tested and approved components. Thereby
the use of lanyards according to EN 354 is admissible with:
•
Attachment elements according to EN 358
•
Fall arrest eyelets according to EN 361 in together with tape energy absorbers according to EN 355
•
The use of fall arresters according to EN 353-2 is only permissible with:
•
Fall arrester eyelets of full body harnesses according to EN 361 with energy-absorbing lanyard according to EN 355
Any further combinations of equipment elements are not allowed and put your safety at risk. The lanyard may only be used for the
intended purpose and under the described conditions of use.

Product specific notes
In addition to all required standards, the sharp edge rope „EDGER“ was tested on edge resistance according to Appendix A of EN
354:2008. This is shown by the edge symbol, which has the following meaning: The lanyard was successfully tested for horizontal
use with a fall over a burr-free 90° steel edge with a radius of 0.5 mm (PPE-Directive 89/686/EEC – CNB/P11.060, edge-type A).
Consequently the lanyard can be use in combination with a fall absorber in case of similar edges, such as rolled steel profiles or
wooden beams.
In addition to the edge defined in prEN354:2008 Appendix A, the sharp edge rope „EDGER“ was also tested over a burr-free steel
edge of cold drawn steel, 90°, radius approximately 0.0 mm. A test over a sharp-edged concrete slat has also been carried out.
a)
Based on the PPE-Directive 89/686/EEC – CNB/P/11.054, the product “EDGER” has successfully passed the fall over a sharp
edge (type B).
Definition of sharp edge (type B) (PPE-Directive 89/686/EEC – CNB/P/11.054):
A steel edge without radius fabricated out of a square steel bar according to EN 10278:1999-12 (Material: C 45+C or E335 GC (ST60)
according to EN 10025). Therefore the equipment may be used with similar edges, such as trapezoidal sheet metal.
The points items should be well-considered, if the equipment is going to be used in horizontal or diagonal configuration including the
risk of a fall from a height:
1. If a risk assessment shows the fact that the edge is “very sharp” and/or includes “sharp burrs” (e.g. similar to broken
glass):
•
Before starting work, you should take adequate measures to prevent or avoid falling over such an edge.
