3. Playback
Playback at a Glance
Playback operation is possible with the buttons on the re-
mote control or on the recorder.
Open the front cover of the recorder.
Insert a recorded cassette into the cassette compartment. It
is pulled in automatically. The recorder now determines the
tape length (display:
» ATTS «
).
The recorder then prompts you to enter the cassette number
(display »
CASS N
O
-
--- «). You must only enter the cassette
number if you want to use the archive system (see the expla-
na-tion of the archive system in the second part of the opera-
ting instructions on page 28).

3. Playback
Optimizing the Picture/Sound Quality
Automatic Tracking
After having inserted a cassette and started playback, the
recorder adjusts automatically for the best possible picture
quality (Auto Tracking).
During this adjustment, the indication: »
AUTO-TRACKING
« appears
in the display of the recorder and the picture/ soundquality
may change.
Manually
Tracking (track position) can also be adjusted with the
S
TRACKING
A
buttons on the remote control.
Press the
“
AUTO
button to reactivate the tracking function.
If the picture jumps or scrolls when playing back tapes re-
corded with another recorder, press the
Z
button, the
numeric buttons

Playback of Long-Play Recordings
When playing back a long-play recording, the recorder auto-
matically switches to long-play playback mode.

Playback of Recordings in other Colour
Standards
SECAM Colour Standard
When playing back SECAM recordings, press the

button.

When you have finished playing back the SECAM recording,
press the

button; the indication »

« disappears from
the display.
The TV set must also be equipped for this colour standard.
It is possible that the colour may differ from that of the
original during high-speed playback, reverse playback,
slow-motion playback, freeze-frame or the picture search
function, as well as when playing back SECAM or NTSC
recordings.
NTSC Colour Standard
When playing back NTSC recordings, the recorder automatical-
ly adjusts to this system (chrominance subcarrier 4.43 MHz).

NTSC
« appears in the display of the recorder.
The display of the total playing time automatically switches to
the 5-digit tape length display.
Playback of S-VHS Recordings
The video recorder automatically switches to the S-VHS for-
mat when you play an S-VHS recorded cassette.
Optimizing the Picture Definition
Automatisch (Automatic Contour Control)
After you have inserted a cassette and started playback, the
recorder automatically adjusts to the optimum picture defini-
tion.

When playing back cassettes with stereo or two-channel
recordings, you can select the desired audio track.
