4. Position fingered edge of featherboard
against edge of workpiece, so that all of fin-
gers contact workpiece. Slide featherboard
toward blade until first finger is nearly even
with end of workpiece, which should be 1"
away from blade.
5. Double-check workpiece and featherboard
to ensure they are properly positioned as
described in
Step 4. Then secure feather-
board to table. Check featherboard by hand
to make sure it is tight.
Note: The featherboard should be placed
firmly enough against the workpiece to keep
it against the fence but not so tight that it is
difficult to feed the workpiece.

4. Secure featherboard to table with clamp.
5. Check featherboard by pushing it with your
thumb to ensure it is secure.
— If featherboard moves, tighten clamp
more.
6. Mount second featherboard to fence with
another clamp (see
Figure 129), then repeat
Step 5 to ensure it is secure.

1. Lower saw blade, then adjust fence to desired
width and secure it.
2. Place workpiece evenly against fence, mak-
ing sure it is 1" in front of blade.
3. Slide featherboard miter bar into miter slot,
making sure fingers slant toward blade, as
shown in
Figure 130.
