To shift the transfer case into
N (Neutral) so that the vehicle
can be towed:
1. Park the vehicle so that it will
not roll and set the park brake.
2. Turn the ignition key to
START
.
3. Place the transmission in
N
(Neutral).
If your vehicle is fitted with a
manual transmission, push the
clutch pedal all the way to the
floor and hold it there until you
have completed the last step
of this procedure.
CAUTION
With the transfer case in
N
(Neutral), the vehicle can roll
even if the transmission is in
P
(Park). If your vehicle has a
manual transmission, it could
roll even if the transmission is in
gear. You or others could be
injured. Be sure to set the park
brake before shifting the trans-
fer case to
N
(Neutral).
4. Shift the transfer case into
Four-Wheel High.
5. Press and hold the Four-Wheel
High and Four-Wheel Low
Lock buttons together for
about ten seconds.
When the transfer case is in
neutral, the indicator light for
the neutral transfer case posi-
tion will turn on.
6. Hold the regular brake pedal
down.
- If your vehicle is fitted with
an automatic transmission,
shift the transmission into
R
(Reverse) for one second,
then shift into
D
(Drive) for
one second.
- If your vehicle is fitted with a
manual transmission, shift
the transmission into first
gear, then release the clutch
pedal for one second.
