Oil Temperature and Oil Pressure
Switches
The oil temperature switch is a normally open
switch that closes at approximately 220° F
(104° C). When the switch closes, the engine will
shut off to prevent damage and will not start until
the temperature drops below the switch point. An
over-temperature indicator light at the ground
controls should turn on when the switch closes.
Component damage hazard.
Do not crank the engine with
the over-temperature light on.
The oil pressure switch is a normally closed switch
that opens at approximately 15 psi (1 bar). If the oil
pressure drops below the switch point, the switch
opens and shuts off the engine to prevent damage.
A low oil pressure indicator light at the ground
controls should turn on when the switch opens.
Component damage hazard.
Do not crank the engine with the
low oil pressure light on.
How to Remove the Oil
Temperature and Oil Pressure
Switches
Perform this procedure with the
engine off.
1 Remove the safety pin (if equipped) from the
engine pivot plate latch.
The engine pivot plate latch is
located under the engine turntable
pivot plate at the counterweight
end of the machine.

2 Open the engine pivot plate latch and swing the
engine pivot plate out and away from the
machine.
3 Oil temperature switch: Remove the fasteners
from the engine side cover, then remove the
cover.
4 Disconnect the wiring from the desired switch.
5 Remove the switch from the engine block, and
then install the new switch. Do not over tighten.
Burn hazard. Contact with hot
engine fluids or components may
result in severe burns
Always use pipe thread sealant
when installing a switch.
