Installing the SC-SDT
The following paragraphs describe installing the SC-SDT device, making cable connections, and
lists pinouts for each Front Panel port or shelf rear panel connectors.
shows shelf/card
connections for the device. When making card and shelf connections always adhere to the
installation guidelines, cited in the beginning of this chapter, and the connection guidelines listed
below. Observe all ESD precautions during installation procedures and be sure to wear a properly
grounded antistatic wrist strap.
1. Insert the SC-SDT card into any single slot of a SpectraComm shelf or enclosure until the card
makes contact with the backplane connectors.
2. Pull down the insertion/extraction tab on the front panel while firmly pushing the card until it
seats in the rear connectors.
Connections and Self-Test
Before making connections, determine whether the SC-SDT can be powered from the same AC
circuit as the equipment connected to its ports. Having the SC-SDT and the connecting equipment
on the same AC circuit prevents large circulating currents caused by differences in ground potential.
If you cannot determine whether devices are on the same circuit, verify that the potential difference
between the grounding circuits of the respective power outlets is no more than 0.25V rms.
To perform a pre-operation Self-Test, do the following:
1. Ensure the unit is properly seated in the shelf slot as described above, and power is supplied to
the shelf/enclosure.
2. Verify that the front panel LEDs illuminate in the following sequence:
•
ON
LED illuminates green.
•
Port 1
,
Port 2
, and
Port 3
LED illuminate green and then extinguish.
•
TM
and
AL
LEDs illuminate red and then extinguish.
•
When the unit has booted up, the
INS
LED illuminates green.
3. The SC-SDT is now ready for cable connections and configuration to suit your network
requirements.
4. Make all electrical connections only through the back panel and front panel connectors
provided.
Note
The AC outlet that powers the SC-SDT units should not be under switch control.
