Action
Step
If the top end plate is to be seperated completely from the adapter:
3
Disconnect the leak detection tubing between the top end plate
and the adapter by unscrewing the bolts.
a)
Lift the top end plate clear and rest it on supporting blocks.
b)
Removing the bottom end plate
The bottom end plate is most easily removed by placing a mechanical lifting device un-
derneath the column. Contact your GE Healthcare representative for information about
lifting devices suitable for different column types.
To remove the bottom end plate:
Action
Step
Make sure that all fluid has been drained from the inside of the column via
the lower inlet/outlet valve and bottom phase valve.
1
Remove the lower mobile phase valve.
2
Place a suitable mechanical lifting device under the column and raise the
device until it contacts the surface of the bottom end plate.
Note:
Blocks may be placed between the lifting device and the bottom end plate to
achieve the required lifting height.
3
Use a wrench to remove the bolts holding the bottom end plate in place on
the column tube.
4
Carefully lower the lifting device. The bottom end plate should detach from
the column tube.
5
If the bottom end plate does not detach from the column tube, insert two
or more T-shaped jacking bolts into oppositely positioned bolt holes in the
end plate. Apply equal amounts of torque to the bolts to free the bottom
end plate from the column tube.
Note:
Control the height of the lifting device underneath the end plate as the end
plate detaches from the column tube to make sure that the end plate cannot
drop by a distance of more than 1 cm if it should suddenly detach from the
tube.
