MAKING ESPRESSO
PRE-WARMING
WARNING
– When activating the hot water function, hot water is pressed
out of the steam wand and the steam wand gets hot. Even some time after opera-
tion, the steam wand may be hot and hot water and steam may escape. Always
keep your hands and arms in appropriate distance to avoid scalds. Only use heat-
resistant cups and glasses. Other materials could crack, burst, or melt. Ensure that
the hot water will not spash.
Use hot water via the steam wand for pre-heating the portafilter and cups (see: ‘Hot
Water’).
1. Prepare the appliance and portafilter for the extraction (see above).
2. Hold the portafilter and cups over the drip tray. Point the steam wand into the
portafilter or cup. Then turn the control dial counter-clockwise to the water icon.
The water flow starts almost immediately.
3. After some hot water has been given off, turn the control dial back to the central
standby position to switch off the hot water function.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for pre-heating the other objects (e.g. cups). Place the pre-
heated cups on the warming tray.
5. Wipe the portafilter completely dry, before filling in coffee powder (see below:
‘Using the Grinder’ or ‘Using Pre-Ground Coffee Powder’).
IMPORTANT -
Ensure that the portafilter and filter basket are completely dry, before
filling in coffee powder. Otherwise, during the extraction, the water may run through
at the sidewall of the filter basket, leaving the centre of the coffee powder unused.
USING THE GRINDER
CAUTION
– When using pre-ground coffee powder, fill the coffee powder
directly into the filter basket (see below).
DO NOT fill pre-ground coffee powder
into the bean hopper.
Just before the extraction, the integrated grinder of the espresso machine grinds the
correct dose of coffee beans directly into the prepared filter basket.
