10 - 13 g coffee powder for an extraction via the SINGLE button. Use approx.
20 g for a 2 cups extraction (DOUBLE button). The grinder of your espresso
machine is pre-programmed for grinding 10 g for each grinding cycle. If you
wish to change the amount, you may program the appropriate grinding time
(see: ‘Entering Your Own Settings’).
• The taste of your coffee depends on the used brand, the grind size (coarse or
fine) and the tamping pressure used for compressing the coffee powder in the
filter basket. Give it a try for meating your individual liking.
• When using whole coffee beans, grind directly before extraction. As well pre-
heat the cups, filter basket and portafilter just before extraction. Place your cups
onto the warming plate, while performing the next steps of the extraction.
• If you wish to brew somewhat more coffee (e.g. filling a coffee mug), you should
extract the expresso as usual and delute with the required amount of water via
the hot water function (see: ‘Hot Water’). Tamp the coffee powder as evenly
and level as possible. There should be a gap of 2 - 3 mm between the surface
of the tamped coffee powder and the rim of the filter basket. It is best to use the
flat bottom of the provided tamper.
• Apply a force of 12 - 13 kg when tamping the coffee powder. When tamping to
firm, the water will flow only slowly and your coffee gets bitter and dark. When
the tamping force is too low, the water flows too fast and the flavours stay in the
coffee powder. As a result, your coffee gets watery and tasteless.
• For texturing milk, the water system needs some time for heating up to the high
steam temperature. Therefore, wait until some steam is given off via the steam
wand, before starting the texturing process (see: ‘Texturing Milk’).
• The appliance can produce steam for approx. 5 minutes. In most cases, this is
sufficient for texturing approx. 300 ml milk. It is best to use the provided milk jug
of the machine.
• The texturing results highly depend on the type, freshness, starting temperatue,
and quality of your milk. Use fresh, refrigerated low-fat cow's milk (approx. 1.5 %
fat) and/or adapt your method for getting the desired results.
