STEAM WAND FOR HOT WATER AND STEAM
The espresso machine can give off hot water and steam via the dedicated steam wand.
You can turn the steam wand conveniently as you like. However,
only grasp the
steam wand at the thermally insulated dark rubber sleeve on the upper half
(steam wand handle)
. In the right front edge of the metal grid of the drip tray, there
is a large opening to which you should point the steam wand, when it is not in use
and when you wish to purge the steam wand with hot water. This will avoid splas-
hing on the metal grid, when the water is pressed out. Use the hot water function for
diluting espresso, making other hot drinks (e.g. tea, cocoa drinks) or for pre-heating
cups and the portafilter. The steam function is used primarily for texturing milk for
latté, cappuccino and other drinks. When texturing milk up to 60 °C (the provided
milk jug gets just too hot for touching) the additional water content will be less than
10%.The steam given off reaches a temperature far above 100 °C, ensuring that
the milk is heated quickly via the steam. An automatic purging cycle ensures that the
coffee will not be burnt by the next water flow, when an extraction is started after
texturing. The water for cooling the water system is automatically released internally
into the drip tray. Thus, the extraction temperature for your espresso will always be at
an optimum with the best flavours obtained. However, due to the automatic purging
cycle, steam could escape from the drip tray after steam generation.
IMPORTANT -
The control dial of the steam wand must be set to the central stand-
by position, when switching on the appliance. Otherwise, water drips out of the
steam wand during heating and the water system reaches the operating tempera-
ture belatedly with avoidable energy loss. In this case, the dot above the control
dial flashes during the complete heating cycle. IMPORTANT: The appliance is not
intended for giving off large amounts of hot water (max. 180 - 220 ml). The water
flow stops automatically.
The steam function may be operated continuously for approx. 5 minutes.
TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
Making your perfekt espresso is an art you will learn quite easily via your new
» Design Espresso Barista Pro «. Various useful tips for this task here are given here.
• In a single extraction cycle, you should not extract more than 30 ml (SINGLE but-
ton; 1 cup filter basket) or, for making a double extraction, 60 ml (DOUBLE but-
ton; 2 cups filter basket). For preparing a normal coffee, dilute the espresso after
extraction using the hot water function (max. 180 - 220 ml; see: ‘Hot Water’).
• The optimum extraction volumes are pre-programmed on delivery and will be
extracted, when you press the appropriate button shortly. We recommend to use
