FOR SAFE OPERATION
Normal
operation
Data destruction
Turn on the power to the console terminal
(connected to a serial port) after turning on the
power to the main unit. If the console terminal is
turned on before turning on the main unit, and the
mode switch is set to UNLOCK or
MAINTENANCE, a Break signal may cause the
destruction of data by changing the state of the
machine to OBP (ok prompt) during the Solaris
Operating Environment operation.
,
Data destruction
Before turning off the power, check the following
to prevent the destruction of data:
l
When some programs are being executed, quit
them.
l
When someone is currently using the system,
make them stop.
l
When a data cartridge is in the drive, eject it. See
Section 5.3.8, "Ejecting a data cartridge."
l
Back up any files containing critical data before
turning off the power.
l
Do not turn off the power to the console while the
main unit power is on. While the mode switch is
set to UNLOCK or MAINTENANCE, a Break
signal might interrupt the Solaris Operating
Environment and change the state of the
machine to OBP (ok prompt), which might
destroy data.
l
When the main unit is turned off, the message
“POWER ON READY” is displayed on the
operator panel. Before responding in
confirmation of this message, do not turn off any
peripheral device or UPS, do not disconnect any
power cable or power distribution box, and do not
turn off power to any other main unit.
Data destruction
Before using this product, always install the
Enhanced Support Facility. If this facility is not
installed, a switch or status display LCD
malfunction might occur and destroy data.
